One Year Old Recuperating From Dog Bite

A one year old child is recuperating after having been bitten on the face by a dog late last week.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a deputy was dispatched to the emergency room at Crockett Hospital to investigate the incident.

The twenty-two month old girl’s father reported they had been at his father’s house on Water Oak Street when the incident occurred. He said he was working on a vehicle while watching his children play in a sandbox.

He told the deputy that he had checked on the children then turned his back for around thirty seconds when he heard his daughter screaming. He turned to see that the youngster had ventured into the neighbor’s yard.

He said the neighbor’s Labrador Retriever-mix was on top of his daughter and when he got to her, her face was scratched up and bleeding. Reports show that stitches were required to close a wound on the child’s forehead.

The dog owner told the deputy that he had not been at home at the time the incident occurred. He stated that his dog is tied up in the back yard and that normally he is not aggressive. He said that the dog only becomes aggressive when someone messes with his food bowl or doghouse.

He told the deputy that the dog had had vaccinations, but that he was uncertain about whether they were up to date. He was advised to quarantine the dog for at least ten days to ensure that he is healthy.
